Star Wars: Legion – New rules – who this?

Ok, this is weird. In over 13 years I haven’t been on a proper vacation.

The ONE DAY I’m offline and relaxing at the beach on a literal island AMG has the Ministravaganza and drops a bomb of a rules update.

I’m trying to wrap my head around all this while I read the pdfs, skim the videos and try to get some useful informations from the Facepage groups.

  • Changing point cost for units, nothing unusual.
  • Raising the points limit for games – ok.
  • Changing the artwork on everything – um… I guess if you want to show „this isn’t FFG SW:L any more“
  • Removing some cards. Ok, we had that before, might take some time getting used to it
  • Completely throwing the setup and ways of winning the game out the window – WHAT?!

And what the hell is this?!

Only 5 turns? Weird „card bidding system“ just to get the game rolling? Blooming hell.

Ok *maybe* I’m just tired and it will all make sense tomorrow or some time but right now this fells to me like X-Wing 2.0 all over. And that really didn’t go down well. :S

I really try to stay positive in the hobby but man some companies really test my limits.

*sigh*

Vorschau Lucifire & Sturmpanzer für The Imperium

Und wie schon gesagt: leider keine Details darüber was genau in welcher Menge in den Boxen ist und was der Spaß kosten wird. „Wir schauen mal“. (Mein Geldbeutel winselt jetzt schon m Gnade.)

After long and careful consideration, we are here today to announce the end of development on Star Wars™: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada.

We are grateful for the community’s passionate engagement and support. Over the past few years, rising production costs, global manufacturing, and pandemic-related challenges have made it increasingly difficult to produce high-quality, pre-painted miniatures which ultimately lead to the decision to end development.

Although development is ending, we are not stepping away from these games entirely. Atomic Mass Games will continue to support tournaments and Organized Play for both games, with OP kits to be found in your local shops, culminating in the Open World Championship at AdeptiCon in March 2025.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

Update to: BattleTech: Mercenaries – CGL does a shipping booboo? Internet rages!

A short update on the Kickstarter Battletech Shipping situation. (See here)

They did lower shipping to 27.23USD but I still felt that on a 80USD pledge that was too high for „local shipping charges“. Thankfully CGL in an update already said „if you still feel to be charged too much, message us“. So I messaged them.

Hello Tim,After researching, we can do a $13.88 discount on shipping or $60 in credit on the CGL store. Which would you prefer?

If you would like a store credit, please reply with the email address associated with your Catalyst account.

Another discount of 13.88USD on shipping? Yeah, I can live with that. Now all is paid and the waiting for delivery begins!

4′ Mech! 8)

You win! I give up!

I have had it.

I can’t stand it any more.

At first I wanted to reveal this to the world at tomorrows unofficial Hobby Hangout but I can’t take the pressure any more.

You lot win. I cave.

I have bought a 3D printer. I ordered a Saturn 3 Ultra 12K.

From now on I will focus on STL and all that shite.

Hope you are happy now!

I’m off clearing space for the bloody thing.

BattleTech: Mercenaries – CGL does a shipping booboo? Internet rages!

So the fulfilment of the latest BattleTech Kickstarter „Mercenaries“ is drawing near. Backerkit has already collected the VAT for the pledge. All fine. Now the want to collect postage & delivery fees. Also fine except one thing:

In the campaign CGL said „local shipping rates“ would be to be expected for 90% of all backers. (see picture from campaign)

Now, here in Germany the main delivery service is Deutsche Post/DHL and a 10kg box, 500€ insured, tracked and up to 120 x 60 x 60 cm comes in at 10,49€.

Let’s have a peak on what backerkit is trying to charge:

$35.46 or 32,85€ – more than three times the usual shipping rate. Or almost 50% of my original pledge.

So how did this happen? Did CGL get greedy? I doubt it. Has Backerkit fucked up at some point and is calculating shipping from the US and not the promised EU hub? Maybe? Is there even a EU hub yet? I don’t know. Did some programmer just simply fucked their code up? Also a possibility. Easy to guess that the KS comments and the Facepage groups are „a bit up in arms“ right now.

And what does CGL say? I quote from the KS comments:

Hi there backers,

We have received notifications from backers that the shipping charges for orders, primarily internationally, have been above what was expected for this project. This is to say, we absolutely agree.

For some context, these are not charges that have been generated by BackerKit or Catalyst ourselves. Our fulfillment house has generated these shipping charges based on the current price of shipping as they see it and how it is to be shipped (PO boxes, sizes and amount of boxes to effectively ship, etc.) These charges are not meant to make profit on any backer’s order as they are being paid separately by us.

While we knew going with a higher quality shipper would be pricier, we did not know it would be to this level for some of you. There could be packing inefficiencies with especially small and large orders that could be leading to higher shipping charges to the best of our knowledge. We’ve spent last night spot-checking and pulling some of the more pricey charges to bring to our fulfillment house to see exactly how these charges are being calculated. If there is any part of these charges that does not seem correct to us, we will let you know and have these charges re-evaluated, likely pushing back our lock date.

There is a chance that these charges are correct and this is just the state of mass distribution. If that is the case, Loren and the distribution team plan to come up with a solution to help us stand with our backers.

We can assume that they will not be able to get back to us until after Easter weekend, where we should have a statement that I will post here updating all of you about the re-evaluation.

My next steps will be:

  • sit back
  • watch the mob run around headlessly with torches and pitchforks
  • have a cup of coffee
  • and wait till end of next week.

If it’s an honest mistake it will be sorted. If someone just fucked it up it will get sorted. If CGL comes forth and says „yeah, those *are* the shipping cost“ then I will grab my torch and fork and join the mob.

Have any of you backed at higher levels? How are your shipping costs looking?

Modiphius’ Achtung! Cthulhu Starter Set Available for Pre-Order

Modiphius Entertainment Ltd’s pulp adventure game, Achtung! Cthulhu has a brand-new starter set available for pre-order on 12th March 2024.

In the Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 starter set, players will get their first glimpse into the hidden globe-spanning conflict between the forces of good and evil, as their courageous band of heroes work to defeat the malignant forces of the occult, and the malevolent might of their Mythos masters.

Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 will immerse players in a world of fast-paced pulp adventure, occult
horror and incredible feats of derring-do. Explore ancient ruins and gather forbidden knowledge, and battle fanatical cultists, crazed scientists, evil sorcerers, deadly Deep Ones and bizarre alien threats.

These starter rules will quickly launch players into Achtung! Cthulhu’s cinematic world of pulp adventures, with a thrilling 60 page three-act starter mission taking them from Dunkirk to the heart of an alien hive city.

It will feature six pre-generated characters, six huge maps and over 100 tokens to run battles and encounters. It will also include a Limited Edition Elder Sign Dice Set with two 2d20 and four challenge dice.

This new starter set will join Modiphius’ collection of successful tabletop RPGs, which include Star Trek Adventures, the official Dune RPG, Fallout: The Roleplaying Game and more.

John Houlihan, line editor at Modiphius said: “The starter set is the perfect entry point for Achtung! Cthulhu’s exciting world of pulp adventure but also brings some fantastic playing aids and accessories for existing fans. With an exclusive dice set, battle board maps and dozens of heroes and villains tokens it really brings this thrilling pulp world to life. Even the box doubles as a mini-GM screen though sadly it’s no protection against the eldritch sanity-challenging horrors which lie within!”

Pre-orders for Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 starter set go live on Tuesday 12th March and can be registered at https://achtungcthulhu.com/.

5 years on madness, 5 years of SomeDudeOnYouTube

On February 18th 2019 I started a YouTube channel as a joke on Warren from ontabletop.com as he constantly told stuff he found on the internet was from „some dude on YouTube“.

Being someone who really runs with a bad joke when I get’s on into his brain, I had to do this:

Admittedly it took me some time to make the video and I was almost April so why not push it to April 1st? (Hence why there are two earlier videos on that channel)

As you can see if you watch that old video, I’m nowhere to be seen or heard. That because I was terrified on the thought of putting myself out there with my face and voice. Stage fright of the highest magnitude.

And it would have possibly stayed that way hadn’t „the event“ happened and forced us all to stay at home. So almost a year later to the day I started doing the unofficial Hobby Hangout on twitch with later uploads to YouTube.

And after a few years I event went in and made a channel on a PeerTube instance. Just in case YouTube would kill the channel because I was making too many bad jokes or something.

https://tube.sp-codes.de/c/somedudeonyoutube/videos

And now, 5 years later the 200th episode of the uHH is just two weeks away. Wow what a ride.

Did I learn anything in the last 5 years? Oh yes. Besides acquiring some video editing skills with OpenShot and Magix Vegas Pro, using OBS, Droidcam and TouchPortal I became a bit more confident in front of the camera. Still can’t stand my voice though.

I’ve met a lot of lovely people along the way. Biggest thank you at this point to all my guests on my shows, especially Gerry. Without his vast knowledge in all things tiny fighting men the uHH surely wouldn’t be where it is today. Also big thanks to all subscribers on YouTube, PeerTube and especially Twitch.

Bets are off on how long I’ll keep this running. Your guess is as good as mine. See you all tonight on twitch *g*
